Definition of the experimental test matrix (oxidation and scale removal/pickling)
The report refers to oxidation tests of semi-finished and flat-rolled products of carbon steel and stainless steel. The focus is to understand the differences in surface oxidation and the pickling/descaling behavior of steels when they are reheated or annealed and oxidized in combustion atmospheres of natural gas or hydrogen.
It is essential to understand how hydrogen combustion atmospheres affect the surface properties of steels to ensure that industrial processes can effectively adapt to these new conditions without compromising the quality of the final product.
To this end, laboratory tests simulating reheating and annealing thermal treatments are necessary, therefore,... The deliverable aims to define the experimental conditions to be used during these tests and the evaluation criteria to determine the extent of any differences resulting from the use of different heating and annealing atmospheres.
